Marietta is approximately 20 miles north from downtown Atlanta, and spwans across much of Cobb County. Marietta has a colorful history intertwined with the Civil War, and is proud to preserve her rich historic heritage.
During the Civil War, Marietta was set ablaze with the start of "The March to the Sea". Sadly, most of downtown Marietta was destroyed. After the South surrendered in April of 1865, the Reconstruction Era began. Marietta grew quickly because of its original development as a rail center. By the turn of the century, Marietta had a new train depot, and became a center of trade and commerce in North Georgia.
