The North Fulton area is located approximately 15 miles north of downtown Atlanta, with Cherokee County sitting to the northwest, Forsyth County to the northeast, and Gwinnett County to the east. To the south you will run into the Dunwoody / Sandy Springs area, then ultimately Buckhead, mid and downtown Atlanta. The North Fulton area is accessed most easily by GA-400, and consists of mainly 2 cities: Roswell and Alpharetta.
The discovery of gold brought settlers to the area in the 1800’s, along with many other areas in what’s now Metro Atlanta. The area was rich in farmland, and settlers soon harvested farms and cotton mills. The distance from the railway, however, slowed the growth in this area down opposed to cities on the railroad. Now, the distance from the noisy railway is something most people prefer!
